Fortune telling and past-life experiences are the same brain at work

A fortune teller's prophecy and a "past-life experience" that claims to see the past grow from the same root.
They are not mysterious spiritual powers. They are fiction your brain produces while processing information.

1. Why fortune tellers score worse than a chimpanzee

During the impeachment of South Korea's president Yoon Suk Yeol, a survey of 100 fortune tellers found a hit rate of 18 percent. A chimpanzee guessing yes or no would hit about 50 percent.
Why does this happen? Because the human brain falls into confirmation bias, clinging to the scenario it wants to believe.

2. Past lives are guided by others; prophecies are self-induced

A past-life regression is the brain being passively led along by a practitioner's suggestion: "Close your eyes and go back into the past."
A prophet is someone with the ability to put themselves into a self-induced hallucinatory state.

3. Your YouTube history becomes "a message from God"

The scenes people "see" in past-life regression often turn out to be scenes from a historical drama they once watched. Fortune tellers are the same. News, YouTube videos and forum posts they consumed are stored in the brain and later pop out. Because of a phenomenon called cryptomnesia, the brain forgets where the information came from and mistakes it for the voice of God.

4. The brain can't stand "not knowing," so it confabulates

The future is a blank by nature. But our brain only feels safe once that blank is filled somehow. Making up plausible details to fill missing information and create perfect-seeming logic is called confabulation.
Even with complex events like court rulings or political upheaval, the brain fills the gaps with a story it wrote itself and produces a fake result called "certainty."

5. "See? I told you so!" (the trap of after-the-fact interpretation)

If even one thing happens to come true, vague past statements get forced to fit the present outcome. Say "a benefactor will come from the east," and if something happens in the northeast, the brain fools itself: "See, wasn't my prophecy right?"

6. The temporal lobe that makes it feel real

When the brain's temporal lobe is stimulated, it can produce intense hallucinations in which space and time warp and spiritual beings are felt.
Just as people who've had a past-life experience are convinced "I really was there," fortune tellers firmly believe the false signals fired by their own brains are "the real future."
This isn't a matter of faith. It's a malfunction of the machine called the brain.

In conclusion

Prophecy is just a sophisticated fake simulation built from past data the brain already holds, mixed with personal bias.
MBTI and AI are more accurate.
Don't bet your life on someone else's temporal lobe.

For the record, in my long experience, the most accurate "prophecy" comes from praying continuously, in a conversational way, for more than an hour.
The problem is that even people with plenty of stamina usually can't get past five minutes because of the inner resistance and storms that come up.
Pray briefly, and you get fooled by your brain's fiction, just like a past-life experience.
Pray for a long, long time, and you'll find out what a real move from God looks like. My ex-girlfriend kept this up for more than a week and resolved a loan worth tens of thousands of dollars. Maybe I'll write a series about that someday.
