Why Pastors Live the Longest
"Pastors Live Longer"?
A University of Kentucky study found nuns who often expressed joy and gratitude lived about 10 years longer
A University of Kentucky study found that nuns who frequently expressed joy and gratitude lived about 10 years longer. A Harvard study also found that people who regularly took part in prayer or worship services had a 33% lower risk of death. The human body is run by the brain. Hormones, immunity, the heart, digestion — all of it follows the brain's signals.
How Dopamine, Serotonin and Oxytocin Affect the Body
Joy, gratitude and peace release good hormones
When feelings like joy, gratitude and peace arise, good hormones like dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin are released and send recovery signals throughout the body. On the other hand, when stress or anger builds up, cortisol explodes, constricting blood vessels, weakening immunity and speeding up aging. Some call Galatians chapter 5 a "brain health" verse: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." The brain reacts more strongly to emotions than to food.
